Usually, there are no fees involved in submitting Form G-639, Freedom of Information Act/Privacy Act Request, especially if a request is simple. However, a complex request for an entire immigration file that contains many pages may cost you $14 minimum. But anyway, do not remit any fee payment at the time of your request. USCIS will contact you in case any fees are required, after receipt of your FOIA request.
With exception of commercial requestors, the first 100 pages of reproduction and the first 2 hours of search time are provided free of charge. Afterwards, a request incurs the fee of 10 cents per each page for duplication (photocopy). All other costs for the search and duplication are charged on the actual basis. Meanwhile, fees are charged only if the combined cost for searches, duplication, and/or review exceeds $14, and by submitting Form G-639 online, you automatically agree to pay the fees up to $25. If the total anticipated fees exceed $250, or you have failed to pay fees in the past, USCIS may request an advance deposit. Also, USCIS will not process your Form G-639 until all unpaid fees from prior requests are paid. As with other USCIS forms, you can make the payment using check or money order.
