Most non-U.S. citizens must report their change of address within 10 days of moving within the United States or its territories. Only A and G visa holders and certain nonimmigrants, who do not possess a visa and who are in the USA for less than 30 days, are the exception to the rule.
Thus, the main purpose of Form AR-11, Alien’s Change of Address Card, is to let individuals inform USCIS about their address change. Besides, all the correspondence from USCIS regarding all of your pending applications will come to the new address too.
AR-11 is a simple 1-page form, where you have to provide present address, last address (most recent only), A-number, country of citizenship, date of birth, and put your signature.
It is possible to file Form AR-11 either online OR by mail. When you use the online change of address, do not file a paper Form AR-11.
You can change your address online and update your address on pending applications/petitions at the same time using the Online Change of Address system on the official USCIS website.
And if you choose to mail a paper Form AR-11 it is recommendable to use certified, registered or return receipt mail.
Please also note that a willful failure to submit Form AR-11 is considered to be a misdemeanor crime that is punishable by a fine up to $200 or imprisonment up to 30 days. Failure to comply can also jeopardize your ability to obtain a future visa or other immigration benefit, or even cause your removal from the USA.
