Advance Parole allows you to travel back to the United States without applying for a visa. Depending on the applicant’s immigration status, USCIS may issue Advance Parole for a single use or, in most cases, for multiple uses. Currently, multiple-use Advance Parole Document is valid for 1 year from the date of its issuance. During that period an individual can make multiple entries into the United States.
Meanwhile, there is one more type of Advance Parole Document. If you included Form I-765, Application for Employment Authorization, and Form I-131, Application for Travel Document, into your adjustment of status package, you should have received a single card that contains both a work permit and an Advance Parole Document. The card looks similar to the current Employment Authorization Document (EAD) but contains the following text “Serves as I-512 Advance Parole”. Such EAD card combined with Advance Parole Document can be valid for a period of 1 or 2 years. USCIS may in its discretion issue the card for a longer or shorter validity period, depending on the particulars of the case.
